Warrior II is an empowering pose that stretches and strengthens a variety of muscles. Here are some tips for this shape.

Basic cues: Start in a standing position at the top of your mat. Step your left foot back and spin the heel so it’s at a 45-degree angle. Bend into your right knee. Extend your arms out to a “T.” Gaze over your front fingertips.

Tips:

  • Check your alignment. The front foot should bisect the arch of the rear foot.
  • Don’t overextend your front knee. The front knee should be over the ankle, but not past it.
Square your hips. But know a natural tilt toward the front is normal.
  • Center your torso. It should be squarely placed — don’t lean too far forward or back.
