Basic cues: Start in mountain (standing). Begin to shift the weight into one foot, grabbing the opposite foot with your hand. Tilt forward, bringing your free hand in front of you. Gaze is over your fingertips.

Quick tips:

  • Ground down: Keep the standing foot strong and engage your leg muscles. Imagine your kneecap lifting upward.
  • Micro-bend the knee: Protect your knee joint by putting a tiny bend in your standing leg.
  • Square the hips: Try to keep your hips squared and pointing toward the front of your mat.
  • “Kick” the foot: Stability in dancer’s pose comes from kicking” your foot into your hand.
