Simple Tips to Create a Consistent Meditation Practice

Here’s how to make it a habit.

Meditation is a powerful tool to cultivate calm, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing. However, it’s often easier said than done.

As with most habits, meditation can be tricky to stick to. Here are some tips to make it easier.

  • Try guided meditation. It’s easier to start with.
  • Start small. All you need, at first, is five to 10 minutes a day.
  • Release expectations. Your meditation practice doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It just has to look like yours.
  • Don’t try to “not think.” A wandering mind is normal — and inevitable. Just bring your attention back to your breath when it drifts.
  • Make it a ritual. Light your favorite candle or incense. Invest in a cozy shawl or comfortable cushion. Find a comfortable, quiet space. Make meditation enjoyable.
