How to Overcome Writer’s Block

It’s both simpler — and harder — than you might think

There’s a simple way to overcome writer’s block: just write.

This sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. Writer’s block is a made-up condition among writers looking for an escape from the harshness of a blank page.

Serious about writing? Stop thinking of it as a creative, inspiration-fueled activity. It’s not. It’s work.

If you don’t know what to write about, that has little to do with writing and more to do with living. Writers are people with stories to tell. Go find some. Take a walk, write down interesting conversations, snap photos. There’s a lot of life to write about.

Then, lower your standards. Don’t expect to type out a masterpiece. Get words on the page — that’s all that matters. Good writing comes out in the editing phase, not the writing part. But you need words to edit.

Also, don’t give up. Writing isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.
