Gratitude as an intentional practice has a variety of benefits. Research shows that gratitude can have both mental and physical benefits, from boosting the immune system to improving your relationships.

It can also be a beautiful part of a yoga practice. Here are some ideas for incorporating it.

  • Savor your practice. Notice the sensation of a good stretch. Take in how your body feels, moment by moment.
  • Set an intention. Start your practice with an intention of gratefulness.
  • Get comfortable with contentment. Cultivate gratitude for what your body can do now — no matter how strong, flexible, or balanced you feel.
  • End with gratefulness. I love ending my practice after Savasana by thinking of just one thing I’m grateful for.
  • Practice a gratitude flow. This is one of my favorites
