A 10-Minute Meditation to Boost Your Creativity

Strengthen your creative thinking skills like a muscle

Do you want to be more creative? There’s a meditation for that.

Enhanced creativity is a benefit of mindfulness meditation, but there’s a practice that focuses on increasing your creativity over time.

It’s based on a cognitive creativity test developed in the 1960s to test creativity. Practiced like meditation, it can also strengthen your creative thinking skills.

Here’s how.

  • Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes.
  • Take several deep breaths.
  • Gently open your eyes.
  • Pick a random object near you.
  • Try to think of any many alternative uses for it as possible. (A book could be used as a yoga block or a paperweight, for example.)
  • There are no wrong answers here.
  • Keep going for 10 minutes a day — your creativity will improve over time.
