Starting a yoga practice doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, there are several things that you definitely don’t need to practice yoga. Here’s three:

  • A “yoga body.” Yoga is a practice for everyone — there are no restrictions on what your body looks like or what it can do.
  • Fancy gear. Wear something comfortable. It doesn’t need a $100 price tag.
  • An expensive membership. Look for free yoga online or in your community.

Here’s what you actually need to do yoga.

  • Time. Practicing yoga takes time, so take some out of your day as an investment in yourself.
  • Attention. Keep your attention on your body and breath as best as you can.
  • A mat. Arguably optional too, but a mat that keeps you from slipping can help your attention stay on your practice.
